Dundee chief targets 2020 for new stadium

Dundee managing director John Nelms has targeted the start of the 2020-21 season for the Scottish Premiership football club’s move to a new stadium.

The club currently plays at the 11,500-capacity Dens Park (left of picture) but is planning on leaving for a new facility on land in the Camperdown Park area of the city.

In an interview with Scottish newspaper The Courier, Nelms disclosed the planned timeline for the move. “Ideally, we would like to be in the stadium by the 2020 season,” he said. “Now whether that is the beginning of the 2020 season or the middle I am not really that bothered.

“I just want it up and running in the right manner and I don’t want to rush it. This is something we need to get right first time so when we go in everybody is excited.

“I would even like to have a few dry runs with concerts or something like that before the football crowds come in just to make sure everything is spot on so you have a really good experience and you want to come back week in, week out.”

The Scotsman added that the club is exploring a naming-rights sponsor for Dens Park, with local civil engineering firm said to be interested.
