Newcastle Racecourse unveils latest development plans

Newcastle Racecourse has held an event to detail major renovation work at the venue, with development plans set to be submitted imminently.

Last month, Arena Racing Company unveiled plans for a multi-million-pound redevelopment scheme for High Gosforth Park and Newcastle Racecourse. ARC anticipates submitting plans for the work to Newcastle City Council sometime in the autumn.

It is hoped the plans will further boost the international prestige of the racecourse and create new jobs in the hospitality, tourism and construction sectors. Highlights of the plans include a new events centre and significant refurbishment of the public and hospitality areas and racing staff accommodation.

Plans for High Gosforth Park also include the development of high-quality residential accommodation and refurbishment to the listed Brandling House and the associated public space.

Newcastle Racecourse hosted a public exhibition and drop-in session to showcase the plans ahead of its race meeting last Friday.

David Williamson, executive director of Newcastle Racecourse, said: “Our plans will complete the transformation of Newcastle Racecourse into a world-class sporting venue. The development of the racecourse and the wider High Gosforth Park Estate will provide a significant boost to Newcastle’s local economy and help create a number of jobs.

“These plans will completely transform the customer experience here at Newcastle, with brand new facilities for racegoers including bars, restaurants and hospitality suites alongside significant upgrades for owners and trainers as well as the accommodation for racing staff.”

The latest plans follow on from the success of previous development work, which included the installation of the Tapeta surface and enhanced racing facilities.
