Inter Miami teases plans for new stadium

Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion franchise Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami (Inter Miami) has offered its latest update regarding the plans for its new stadium.

Inter Miami has used the launch of the club’s new website to provide updated visuals for its planned 25,000-capacity stadium at the heart of Miami Freedom Park’s soccer village. Inter said Arquitectonica, which developed the master plan of Miami Freedom Park, teamed with architects HOK to further incorporate the club’s identity and culture into its design.

The club’s ownership group leaders, David Beckham and Jorge Mas, are currently in negotiations with Miami officials over a lease deal for the land on which they want to build the team’s permanent home at the Melreese Country Club golf course.

Along with the stadium, Miami Freedom Park is set to include 600,000 square feet of entertainment, restaurant and retail space; 400,000 square feet of office space; a golf entertainment facility; 3,750 parking spaces; 750 hotel rooms and 110 acres of open green space.

In March, the City of Fort Lauderdale approved a proposal from Inter Miami to utilise Lockhart Stadium as its temporary home, rejecting a rival bid. Inter plans to develop a training facility and multi-purpose 18,000-seat stadium on the site of Lockhart Stadium, playing at the venue for the 2020 and 2021 MLS seasons, until its planned Freedom Park stadium opens in Miami.
