Danish Superliga club clinches extension with stadium sponsor

Danish Superliga football club AaB has extended its stadium naming rights deal with locally-based cement manufacturer Aalborg Portland.

Aalborg Portland has served as the naming rights partner of the 14,135-capacity stadium since April 2017. Under the new contract, AaB’s home will continue to be known as Aalborg Portland Park until at least the end of 2021.

The company’s managing director, Michael Lundgaard Thomsen, said: “In an increasingly global world, it is important for us to continue cultivating our roots in Aalborg.

“We can see that the sponsorship has given the extra visibility both locally and nationally as we hoped. In particular, Aalborg Portland Park has been an important element in our work to attract and develop new talent to our company in the form of students, apprentices and graduates.”

AaB and Aalborg Portland were both founded in the 1880s, while Aalborg Portland Park under the name Aalborg Stadion was inaugurated at its present location in Aalborg’s west town almost 100 years ago.

“As two proud institutions in North Jutland, we will together develop the experience at Aalborg Portland Park, so that it can be even more of a hub for the whole of North Jutland,” AaB’s CEO, Thomas Bælum, said.
