Mainz teams up with WIWIN for startup venture at Opel Arena

German Bundesliga football club Mainz 05 has agreed a partnership with WIWIN, an online platform for sustainable investing, that will lead to the staging of a startup venture during home matches at the Opel Arena.

The project will target startups from the fields of sustainability, social entrepreneurship and those with regional relevance. They will be able to pitch their ideas to selected guests and benefit from the large network of commercial partners of Mainz and WIWIN during events staged in the GRÜNDERloge at the Opel Arena.

Over the course of the season, the most interesting projects across the three categories will be given their own award, coupled with the chance to introduce themselves to a wider audience in the context of Mainz 05.

The club has a strong ecological and social commitment, becoming the first climate neutral team in the Bundesliga. Michael Welling, director of marketing and sales at Mainz 05, said: “Mainz 05 has been committed to sustainability for many years, using its appeal to strengthen public awareness of these values and thoughts in its social projects and to promote a change in attitudes.

“We are looking forward to hosting the startups, who will present their ideas in the GRÜNDERloge and maybe also inspire us and our future actions.”

WIWIN offers crowd investing and other investment opportunities specifically in the fields of renewable energy, sustainable start-ups and energy efficient real estate. Matthias Willenbacher, founder of WIWIN and co-initiator of the GRÜNDERloge, said: “Green startups are using their ideas and business models to drive climate protection at tremendous speed and dynamism.

“Startups grow exponentially with their modern business models when they make the breakthrough. Through this initiative with Mainz 05 we want to give the startups the platform and support they deserve for their commitment.”
