Arena MRV engages Accenture to set new bar for stadium technology

Arena MRV, the future home of Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Atlético Mineiro, has agreed a partnership with professional services company Accenture that intends to deliver a stadium that offers the best technological experience in Latin America.

Work began on the 46,000-seat Arena MRV in April 2020, with the stadium, which was given the green light in December 2019, located in the northwest region of Belo Horizonte. At this stage of the project, the two partners are discussing several digital solutions designed to enhance the safety and comfort of spectators, and to create a personalised experience on matchdays and for other events.

Arena MRV officials and Accenture are currently studying best practice among other leading sports and entertainment venues, with a view to drawing up initiatives tailored to the stadium itself. Leandro Evangelista, executive manager of technology at Arena MRV, said: “It’s not just technology for the sake of technology itself.

“We studied several successful facilities around the world and we aim high, as we want the experience at the Arena MRV to be unforgettable and unique in all aspects, with that feeling of wanting to return as soon as possible.”

Evangelista said the two parties are looking at the type of events the stadium will host, as well as ticketing, advanced connectivity, access, parking, food and beverage provision, and the event experience – both during and after.

Guilherme Goehringer, senior manager of Industry X at Accenture Brasil, added: “The Arena MRV is positioned to be an Arena Tech, with an active participation in the digital fan experience.”

The stadium will replace the Estádio Independência as Atlético’s home ground and is expected to open by the end of 2022.
