Nationals, BetMGM open MLB’s first stadium sportsbook

Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals, has today (Monday) opened the first retail sportsbook connected to a Major League Baseball stadium through an agreement with sports betting and gaming company BetMGM.

The Nationals first partnered with BetMGM in January 2021, with the exclusive multi-year deal including the launch of a BetMGM mobile app within the permitted area around the stadium.

The BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park, which will provide a luxury viewing and sports betting experience, has now officially opened ahead of the start of the new MLB season in March.

The sportsbook will be open year-round and will provide fans with an “innovative entertainment destination” to watch and bet on games. The space will feature 40 big-screen TVs with live-odds boards, cashiers at six betting windows and user-friendly kiosks, along with full-service beverage and dining options.

Adam Greenblatt, chief executive of BetMGM, said: “We’re constantly pushing the boundaries to deliver sports fans unique experiences, and that’s just what we’ve done with the new BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park.

“Whether fans are attending baseball games or looking for a place to watch any sporting event, the BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park is bound to be one of the most engaging sports viewing environments in the District.”

Alan Gottlieb, chief operating officer of Lerner Sports, which owns the Nationals, said: “The BetMGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park represents the newest way in which we are providing our fans with the best experiences in sports and entertainment.

“Upon its opening, the sportsbook immediately becomes one of the neighbourhood’s premier venues for both the savvy bettor and casual fan to watch the top events in an upscale and electric atmosphere.”

The sportsbook will be located in the space previously known as Center Field Social. It will not be accessible by fans while they are in attendance at a Nationals game, although supporters will be able to place bets via BetMGM’s mobile app.

Earlier this month, BetMGM and the Arizona Cardinals unveiled plans for the first retail sportsbook at an NFL stadium. The 17,000-square-foot sportsbook is scheduled to open at State Farm Stadium in time for the 2022 NFL season.
