A new 1,000-capacity concert venue will open next month at the WiZink Center sports complex in Madrid.

La Sala del WiZink Center will be accessible from Goya Street on the same level as the main floor of WiZink Center, which is the 17,500-capacity home of Spanish basketball clubs Real Madrid and Movistar Estudiantes.

In a statement, WiZink Center said that “huge investment” had been required to soundproof the smaller venue alongside the raucous main arena, although no financial details have been disclosed.

The new facility will feature a 21-square-metre LED screen behind the stage and a 66-piece lighting equipment toolkit, featuring a variety of different technologies.

The space will be used for concerts featuring emerging artists and bands, as well as big-name performers who are looking to warm up before performing in the main arena.

The facility has already been showcased to national and international promoters, the statement added.

The venue will open on May 19 with a performance by international bands Ice Nine Kills, Skynd, Lansdowne and Defying Decay, with Doctor Music acting as the event’s promoter.
