Northampton Town to press ahead with long-awaited East Stand project

League One football club Northampton Town has presented plans and CGI renderings for its new East Stand at Sixfields Stadium, with work set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

The new stand will increase the capacity of Sixfields to just over 8,200 and will see the introduction of the club’s first-ever pitch-facing hospitality.

Over 100 new parking spaces with eight electric vehicle charging spaces will also be offered, while an accessible viewing platform for supporters with wheelchairs will return. The project also includes two new dining areas, a full-service commercial kitchen, a new link road around the stadium, and a concourse area with kiosks and screens.

The latest update comes after Northampton in November reached an agreement with GRS Group to complete work on the new East Stand. Work on the stand has been left incomplete for nearly a decade.

In March 2022, West Northamptonshire Council agreed to an offer from Town’s owners to acquire land next to the stadium following years of talks. The club revealed designs for a proposed redevelopment of the stand back in June 2021.

GRS is currently on-site having completed a lot of the preliminary paperwork and clearing of the site. The construction of the site compound has begun, and the company will be fully on-site following the end of the season.

The club has pledged to keep any disruption during construction to a minimum, with GRS committing to do as much work as possible during the close season and on days when there are no matches at Sixfields. Northampton is hopeful that East Stand ticket holders will not need to move seats during the building work.
