Austrian Bundesliga football club BW Linz officially opened its new-look Hofmann Personal Stadion on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The new-look stadium, which has a capacity of around 5,500, has been built on the site of the former ground of the same name. Work on the project commenced in September 2021.

A sold-out crowd turned out for the friendly match against Dutch Eredivisie club PSV.

Saturday’s match saw the home side go ahead in the fourth minute with a goal from Ronivaldo. PSV scored two goals in quick succession before half-time and held on to secure a 2-1 victory.

The stadium was officially opened on July 5 and BW Linz will play its first competitive match at the venue on August 6 when it hosts Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga. The club secured promotion to the top flight after winning the second-tier 2.Liga last season.

The Hofmann Personal Stadion is the second new stadium to open in Linz this year, after fellow Austrian Bundesliga club LASK inaugurated Raiffeisen Arena in February.

Work on the 19,080-capacity Raiffeisen Arena commenced in October 2021. The stadium was built on the site of the former Linzer Stadion.
