Lega Serie A, the governing body of the top division of Italian club football, has announced that this season’s Supercoppa Italiana will be played at Al-Awwal Park, home of Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.

The semi-finals will take place at the Riyadh venue on January 18-19, with the final to be held on January 22. The stadium will also host the Supercopa de España from January 10-14.

Lega Serie A said the Supercoppa Italiana will take place in January due to the competing teams’ European commitments and the availability of Saudi Arabia as a host country. In March, the governing body agreed a deal for Saudi Arabia to host four of the next six editions of the competition.

For the 2024 edition, the Supercoppa Italiana will expand to a four-team tournament, adopting the same format of the Supercopa de España. Saudi Arabia had already been pencilled in to host the next two editions of the Supercoppa Italiana, and the tournament will then take place elsewhere for two years before returning to Saudi Arabia for two more years.

Lega Serie A chief executive Luigi De Siervo has said that the 2023-24 Supercoppa Italiana will bring in €23m (£19.8m/$25.2m). It will feature Napoli, Inter Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina.

The King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh hosted the most recent Supercoppa Italiana in January. The 2021-22 event took place at the San Siro in Milan.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has a deal in place for the Supercopa de España to be played in Saudi Arabia until 2029.
