Red Star FC, which plays in France’s third-tier Championnat National, has opened its new East Stand at Stade Bauer, which is in the midst of a major redevelopment project.
Paris-based Red Star is France’s third oldest professional club and was one of the founding members of Ligue 1, but has not played in the top tier since the 1974-75 season.
The club received the green light for the redevelopment of Stade Bauer back in February 2022. Red Star plans on transforming the venue into an ‘English-style’ stadium, with the new 10,000-capacity facility to have its stands close to the pitch in an effort to produce an intimate atmosphere.
The new East Stand had been due to be completed in August but delays meant that it was unable to open until January 12, when Red Star defeated US Orléans 2-1 to cement its position at the top of the league. The new stand, which was officially inaugurated during a ceremony on January 18, housed 4,500 fans for the match.
The complete revamp of Stade Bauer, which opened in 1909, is due to be finished in the first quarter of 2026. The redevelopment of Stade Bauer is part of Red Star’s long-term plan to return to Ligue 1, and the stadium could be expanded further if the club reaches the top division.
The project also includes the development of Bauer Box, a mixed-use venture that will feature offices and collaborative workspaces, shops and health services. The inauguration ceremony also marked the laying of the first stone of Bauer Box.
The match against US Orléans was attended by Stéphane Troussel, president of Seine-Saint-Denis; Karim Bouamrane, Mayor of Saint-Ouen; and Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
During the inauguration ceremony, Yoann Choin-Joubert, chief executive of developer Réalités, said that the project is now halfway complete.
