Spanish construction company Urbas has been awarded a contract to build a new stadium for Colombian football club América de Cali.

The stadium will have a capacity of 52,000 and feature a retractable roof. The stadium project will be known as ‘Arena América’ and it is hoped work will be completed by 2027, the club’s centenary year.

The stadium will feature 450 suites, 260 boxes, commercial premises, restaurants and office space. The wider stadium site will double up as a sports city and will be capable of hosting other sports and music events.

According to Colombian newspaper La Republica, the venue will be located on the road that connects Cali with the town of Jamundí. It will be built to meet FIFA regulations.

América de Cali currently plays at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero (pictured), which has a capacity of 37,000.

The club is currently eighth in the Categoría Primera A, the top tier of Colombian football, after two games of the 2024 season. It finished fifth in 2023.
