Michie Stadium in West Point, New York has commenced construction on a project to renovate the venue’s East Stands.

The stadium is home of the Army Black Knights, which represents the United States Military Academy in college football. The venue has a capacity of around 38,000 and this will reduce to approximately 36,000 when the new East Stands open in 2026.

The project will aim to preserve the history of the stadium, which opened in 1924, while modernising the experience for cadets, graduates, families and fans.

The Black Knights will continue to play in front of fans during the construction phase, although supporters can expect some adjustments to the usual game-day experience.

The stadium’s capacity is expected to be capped at 30,000 during construction. The Corps of Cadets will be seated temporarily in the north-end sections of Michie Stadium, and when completed, the project will include a dedicated seating section for the Corps of Cadets in the East Stands.

The East Stands will be closed for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, with this covering all fan amenities in the area including walkways, concessions and bathrooms.

Mike Buddie, director of athletics at the United States Military Academy, said that the project, combined with recent enhancements, will distinguish Michie Stadium as a “premier venue” for sports and special events.

Premium experiences company Legends was engaged to work on the project back in 2020.
