Swansea Council seeks operator for new indoor arena

Swansea Council is advertising for an operator for a planned multi-purpose, indoor arena in the Welsh city.

A 3,000 to 3,500-capacity venue has been proposed as part of a new £500m (€572.3m/$623.2m) redevelopment of Swansea city centre.

The regeneration will take place on the site of the former St David’s shopping centre, with real estate development and asset management company Rivington Land having already been appointed to manage the project.

Following talks with Rivington Land and specialists arena consultants IPW, the council is now seeking an indoor arena operator.

IPW director Nick Russell said: "We have had discussions with a number of leading arena venue operators. Both we and they are very excited about bringing this venue to the heart of the city, where the economic impact will be at a maximum. The successes of our schemes around the country and the world show how significant the venue can be for residents, business and tourism in the city."

IPW has also worked on the First Direct Arena in Leeds, the Royal Arena in Copenhagen and the Singapore Sports Hub, as well as multi-purpose facilities in Liverpool, Hull and York.

Other proposals for the regeneration of the St David’s site include a café and restaurant quarter, a cinema complex and shopping outlets.
