Leeds United buy back Elland Road

English Championship second-tier football club Leeds United has confirmed that it has retaken ownership of its Elland Road home stadium.

The club was forced to sell the facility on a lease deal in 2004 to help reduce its debts, following the team’s relegation from the top flight.

Financial details of the buy-back agreement were not disclosed, but Leeds said in a statement that Greenfield Investment Pte Ltd, the Aser Group Holding company and the club’s parent company, had completed the deal.

Andrea Radrizzani, who recently became owner of the club, had highlighted the purchase of Elland Road as one of his main priorities.

“Today is an important day in our history and a proud day for me and my team,” Radrizzani said in a statement.

“When I met with management and supporters during my first few months at the club the purchase of Elland Road was very high on their list of priorities and I’m delighted to be able to announce that we have completed that process today.”

Elland Road, which has a capacity of 38,000, was built in 1897 and has been Leeds’ home stadium since its formation in 1919.
