Sevilla set for €1.28m stadium expansion

Spanish LaLiga football club Sevilla is to spend €1.28m ($1.57m/£1.12m) on an expansion project at its Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán home stadium.

According to various reports in the Spanish media, Sevilla will add 4,382 seats to its stadium, bringing the total capacity to 47,074.

The new seats will be installed in the lower tier of the venue, while the initiative also includes expanded the south entrance doors at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Reports say the project is focused on improving security conditions for fans at the stadium, with folded seats to be installed and more space made available for disabled fans.

In addition, interior corridors will be added and more doors introduced to help fans enter and exit the stadium safely.

The club is believed to have now submitted its proposal to the urban planning management department of the city of Seville and must await approval before starting work on the project.

Sevilla currently sits sixth in the 2017-18 LaLiga table, some 30 points behind top side Barcelona.
