Sevilla commences stadium expansion

Spanish LaLiga football club Sevilla has commenced work on redevelopment of its Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán that will increase capacity at its home stadium to almost 47,000.

The stadium, which first opened in 1958, is undergoing improvement work that will add around 1,000 seats to the lower tiers of each of its four stands.

The project will also improve accessibility to the stadium bowl, as well as enhance facilities for disabled fans.

The Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán originally had a capacity of around 70,000, with all fans standing at games.

This was reduced to an all-seated capacity of around 42,500 through a redevelopment project ahead of Spain’s hosting of the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
