Industry appointments round-up: September 1-7

A round-up of key appointments from within the sports and events industries over the past week.

Manchester United has appointed Charlie Brooks as its new director of communications. United told the PRWeek website that former Nike communications executive Brooks would begin his new role in October. Brooks will replace Phil Townsend in the role.

NFL American football team the Kansas City Chiefs has appointed Jeffrey Miller as its vice-president of security. Miller will play an important part in enhancing the fan experience for the Chiefs and will report directly to club president Mark Donovan. Miller previously spent eight years at the NFL’s New York office, first serving as director of strategic security programs and later as senior vice-president and chief security officer.

Tennis Australia has appointed Josie Brown as its new chief insights and marketing officer. Brown currently serves as director of digital, APAC at J Walter Thompson, and will take up her new role in the coming weeks.

Ian Lenagan, non-executive chairman of the English Football League, has stepped down from his role, citing increasing opportunities arising out of his business interests away from the organisation. Debbie Jevans CBE will act as interim chair and will lead the process to appoint Lenagan’s replacement.
