Bamberg arena set for upgrade as Brose extends naming rights

Brose Arena, the home of German Basketball Bundesliga powerhouse Brose Bamberg, is set to be redeveloped after a move to develop another arena in the Bavarian town was abandoned.

The news was announced as German automotive parts manufacturer Brose signed a five-year extension to its naming rights deal with the facility. Having held naming rights to Bamberg’s Brose Arena since 2013, the company’s moniker will now be attached to the facility through to 2023.

Along with staging Brose Bamberg games, the arena is also a significant entertainment venue for the region and a corresponding contract with Bamberg Arena Betriebsgesellschaft has been agreed through which it will undergo renovations worth around €5.6m (£5m/$6.4m) over the next five years.

With Brose Arena set to be upgraded, plans for the construction of a larger multi-purpose arena have been put on hold.

Michael Stoschek, chairman of the Brose Group, said: “With the extension of the naming rights until 2023, we underline our long-term commitment in Bamberg. This is also a clear commitment to the location.

“It was important for the continuation of our commitment that the City of Bamberg invest in the infrastructure of the arena. Only in this way will the multifunctional arena remain competitive and state-of-the-art.”
