New Tampere Arena seeks CEO

Finland’s Tampere Deck and Arena has announced it is searching for a chief executive who is “an international level leader.”

The project will see the construction of a new arena that will seat 13,000 to 15,000 people. It is due to open in 2021 and is scheduled to host ice hockey matches and other events.

It is claimed that the Tampere Deck Arena will be the first centre for live entertainment experiences that will be constructed in the heart of a European city.

Kari Mäkelä, project development director at SRV, said: “We are looking for a national and international leader with passion, experience and the ability to build a world-class, new-era experience concept in Finland. The managing director of the arena is a power-generating dynamo that creates the prerequisites not only for the successful business of the arena, but also for the national and world-class event business, concerts, congresses and sporting events.”

The Tampere Deck and Arena project will also include a block of residential buildings and connect the east and west sides of the city. The first phase of the project will include the construction of a deck on the south railway yard. The arena, along with a training facility, hotel and two tower blocks, will also be built on the deck. The second phase will include the north deck and three tower blocks.

Local Liiga ice hockey teams Tappara and IIves will play their home matches at the new arena from the 2021-22 season.

Tampere Deck and Arena has also teamed up with Veikkaus’ casino, Lapland Hotels, NoHo Partners and Hartwell.

Tero Tenhunen, project director of the city of Tampere, said: “The significant partnerships already signed are an indication of the attractiveness of the whole region and concept. The CEO that we are currently looking for will play a central role in building a nationally and internationally significant centre of excellence for the arena and the whole region in the boldly developing centre of Tampere.”
