Headingley Stadium in Leeds has been cleared to host two 10,000-capacity concerts per year, making it one of the largest music venues in the city.
Leeds City Council’s licensing sub-committee agreed to allow the 17,500-capacity stadium, which is home to Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Leeds Rhinos rugby league club and Yorkshire Carnegie rugby union club, to host music concerts on the pitch, with a capacity of just under 10,000 spectators.
The applicants had announced in a meeting last week that they had hoped to host up to four concerts per year, but opposition from local residents led to no resolution being reached during the meeting.
The council has now confirmed that permission has been granted for only two occasions per year – one evening and one afternoon event – with additional conditions in relation to monitoring noise.

During last week’s meeting, a representative from the applicants, Leeds Cricket, Football & Athletic Company Limited, said, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We believe we have provided information to contend topics raised. The PA system will not be used to amplify live music. The PA system will only be used for safety announcements.
“Concerns regarding daily disruption have been raised. This will not be the case, as there will only be four events per year. We reiterate our intention to work with residents and not antagonise them in any way.”
She added that noise disruption will be minimised, and that floodlights would be switched off at 11pm. A telephone line for complaints would also be manned during the events, from which information would be relayed to sound engineers working on the concerts.
The licence would allow the planned Proms on the Pitch event, set for September 21, to take place at the ground.
