Verizon bids to boost stadium 5G with Boingo

Verizon is targeting improved 5G internet coverage in stadiums and other indoor locations across North America after partnering with Boingo Wireless.

The US telecoms giant is working with the leading distributed antenna system (DAS) and Wi-Fi provider, to bring its 5G Ultra Wideband service indoors and to public spaces, where 5G coverage has proven unreliable.

Boingo claims to have more than a million wireless hotspots in large venues like airports, military bases, stadiums and universities.

“Verizon and Boingo are working together to architect a hyper-dense network designed for large and small indoor spaces as part of Verizon’s ongoing 5G network expansions,” a Verizon spokesperson said in a statement.

Verizon this week made Phoenix, Arizona, the 10th city in which its 5G Ultra Wideband service is available.

Chase Field, the home of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks, and Talking Stick Resort Arena, the Phoenix Suns’ NBA arena, are among the limited number of landmarks where the service will be available.
