English Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur has entered a fresh planning application as part of the latest phase of the wider development project connected to its new stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened in April 2019, but additional parts of the overall complex still need to be developed. ‘Northumberland Terrace’ represents the third phase of the project and encompasses the area behind the High Road to the north west of the stadium.
The Football.London website said the northern end of the ‘mini-masterplan’ has been reconsidered and an application made to Haringey Council which is now open to consultation through to August 7. The redeveloped area will include new commercial office space “catering for use by the creative industry” and ground floor retail units.
It will also host a music label and recording studio, with Tottenham stating in its application that “significant steps” have been taken to secure an anchor tenant who is a “leading figure in the music industry”. A performance space will also be incorporated, as well as public spaces.
The application reads: “Extending Paxton Place into a newly landscaped courtyard to the north and activating this space, and the street frontage, with retail opportunities through new and restored buildings will encourage movement up the High Road and enable a new destination and heart space in Tottenham, a breeding ground for creative collaboration and a focus for the community.”
The application comes after Tottenham last month secured a £175m (€191.7m/$221.8m) loan from the Bank of England, conceding that COVID-19 may lead to it registering a revenue loss of more than £200m for the period ending June 2021.
Spurs have had to deal with the impact of staging their remaining 2019-20 Premier League home games behind closed doors, while the pandemic has also decimated the stadium’s wider events calendar.
