UEFA confirms capacity for Champions League final

The capacity for Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City at Porto’s Estádio do Dragão has been set at 16,500, with a limited number of general public tickets to go on sale today (Tuesday).

The Portuguese authorities have approved plans for the 50,000-seat Dragão to open at around 33% capacity. Chelsea and Manchester City have each been allocated 6,000 tickets for the match, with the clubs having conducted their own sales processes.

Today, 1,700 tickets have been reserved for the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. Price categories for general public tickets are €70 (£60.52/$85.76) for Category 4, €180 for Category 3, €450 for Category 2 and €600 for Category 1. Fans can apply for up to two tickets per person.

Fans attending the match will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result dated May 26 or later, with UEFA having clarified that proof of vaccination will not grant access. Overseas fans will also have to comply with border entry restrictions and requirements in force at the time of the final.

Tickets for the match will be delivered via the official UEFA Champions League Tickets app soon after purchase.

Porto was awarded hosting rights for the Champions League final earlier this month after UEFA opted to move the match from Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium as Turkey was added to the UK’s red list of COVID-19 travel destinations.

The relocation has allowed fans to attend the final, which would not have been possible had the match remained in Istanbul.

UEFA had also discussed moving the match to England but, despite the efforts from the English Football Association (FA) and other authorities, it was not possible to achieve the necessary exemptions from UK quarantine arrangements for UEFA staff, media and sponsors. Wembley had been pinpointed as a potential host for the match but the stadium will stage the Championship play-off final on Saturday as originally planned.
