Forest Green launches contest for eco-friendly stadium sponsor

League Two football club Forest Green Rovers has launched a contest for naming rights to its home stadium, The New Lawn.

The club is seeking a company that “advances the environmental cause” to sponsor the stadium, which is currently known as the ‘innocent New Lawn’ through an agreement signed last year with drinks manufacturer Innocent.

Forest Green had invited fans to come up with names for the stadium before settling on ‘innocent New Lawn’. Innocent’s social media followers were encouraged to suggest names for the stadium, which led to ‘Kevin’ becoming one of the shortlisted options.

Innocent is now set to step aside as the stadium’s sponsor, with Forest Green looking to partner with an organisation working on environmental issues, either through the products or services they offer, through greening their own operation, or through public information and advocacy.

Forest Green chairman Dale Vince said: “Whatever you do, make or provide, whatever your plans or achievements to date – you could have your name on The New Lawn next season. The opportunity is open to everyone – if you’re in this space we want to hear from you.”

Interested companies are invited to send a maximum of 250 words explaining why their name should be on The New Lawn to partnerships@fgr.co.uk by July 1. The club will announce the winner and the new stadium name on July 9.

Forest Green has launched a number of eco-friendly initiatives and in December 2019 the club was granted outline planning permission for a new 5,000-seat stadium that will be built solely using wood.
