Financial services company Fiserv has entered into a partnership with the New York Islanders to deliver point-of-sale cashless services at the NHL team’s UBS Arena, which opened last month.
UBS Arena is implementing Clover point-of-sale hardware and Bypass point-of-sale software from Fiserv, which has fitted a fully cashless payments ecosystem at the venue.
The cashless services will support mobile and in-app ordering, self-service kiosks, grab-and-go marketplaces and touchless order fulfilment. More than 350 Clover devices have been fitted to enable quick and contactless purchasing and reduce queue times.
Bob Thormeier, vice-president of operations for Delaware North Sportservice, the hospitality and foodservice provider at UBS Arena, said: “Using Bypass technology from Fiserv has enabled us to further reimagine our approach to concessions, delivering a next-generation experience for fans.
“We’ve traded out many of the classic ‘belly-up’ concession stands for more market-style concepts at UBS Arena, allowing guests more flexibility when ordering, followed by a quick, seamless checkout process with the Bypass technology.”
Geoff Johnson, general manager of Bypass at Fiserv, added: “As consumers embrace digital engagement, sporting and event venue operators have a timely opportunity to build better experiences for fans while streamlining their own operations. With new digital and self-serve ordering and payment options, Islander fans at UBS Arena will enjoy more time watching the action on the ice.”
Fiserv’s Clover and Bypass services have been fitted at more than 50 major professional sports stadiums and 300 other venues across the US. Fiserv, which holds naming rights to the home arena of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, has this year partnered with Major League Soccer team Philadelphia Union and English Premier League football club Chelsea to provide cashless services at their respective venues.
UBS Arena has a capacity of 17,250 for ice hockey games and was built at a cost of $1.1bn (£752m/€884m). The venue, located at Belmont Park, is operated by Oak View Group.
UBS Arena will host more than 150 major events annually. The first concert at the venue took place late last month, with singer Harry Styles the headliner. The arena’s capacity rises to 19,000 for concerts.
