The NBA basketball league has announced record-breaking figures for its arenas during the 2022-23 regular-season campaign.
Ahead of the start of the NBA post-season schedule, the league said that the season had set new benchmarks in terms of total attendance, average attendance, percentage of capacity and sellouts.
A record 791 sellouts shattered the previous mark of 760 set during the 2018-19 season, and arenas were filled to 97% capacity – an all-time high.
The league’s total attendance of 22,234,502 broke the previous record of 22,124,559 set in the 2017-18 season. For the first time ever, teams averaged more than 18,000 spectators per game.
The league has initiated various efforts to engage fans inside and outside arenas in recent years.
In January, the NBA launched a new virtual reality experience as part of an extended partnership with technology conglomerate Meta, featuring live NBA League Pass games in VR.
The NBA playoffs begin this Saturday ahead of the NBA Finals in June.
