Further delay on installation of radio system at London Stadium

A radio communications system used by police officers will not be fully operational at London Stadium, the home of English Premier League football club West Ham United, until February.

A temporary ‘Airwave’ radio system will be in operation for West Ham’s home game against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. It had initially been hoped that the system would be fully installed in time for the visit of Arsenal onDecember 3.

But, according to the Daily Mail newspaper, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed a further delay, meaning the system will not be ready until February.

The Metropolitan Police last month turned down a request from West Ham to help marshal the ground, citing the lack of a “satisfactory” radio system. The club had made the plea after trouble broke out during the home game against Watford on September 10.
