Progress made at new Atletico stadium

Atletico Madrid has announced that 25,000 fans have chosen their seats at La Peineta stadium as work continues to progress at the Spanish LaLiga football club’s new home ground.

The first phase for supporters to apply for seats runs until January 25 and is open exclusively to club members. Phase two begins in early February and is open to any club members who joined after May 16 this year. The third and final phase begins in May and is open to fans who are not members but have previously registered with the club as a non-member.

The announcement coincided with Atletico releasing a slideshow of images highlighting the progress being made at the stadium, which will have a capacity of more than 70,000. The fitting of the ground’s perimeter compression ring has now been completed, with the next step to be the laying of the cables used to lift the roof’s cover.

The ground is a former athletics stadium and is undergoing a significant revamp. It is hoped that development work will be finished in time for the 2017-18 LaLiga season.
