The Páirc Uí Chaoimh Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stadium in Ireland is on course to open in June 2017.

The re-developed facility will boast a capacity of 45,000, thanks to a project that has cost €80m ($85.8m/£68.8m).

Features at the new stadium include covered seating for 21,000 fans and terrace capacity for 24,000 spectators, as well as large dressing rooms and warm-up areas, physio and rehab facilities, an all-weather pitch and a network of hot food kiosks, shops and bars. Páirc Uí Chaoimh will also be the first stadium in Ireland to meet European Union standards regarding access.

The42.com website reports that the scheduled June completion date places the stadium in contention to stage the Munster senior finals next summer, with Munster Council yet to announce a host venue for the event.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh is also one of 12 stadia that will make up Ireland’s bid for the 2023 Rugby World Cup national team rugby union tournament.

Ger Lane, Cork GAA chairman, said: “The Páirc Uí Chaoimh Stadium and Centre of Excellence set the bar very high. The board is very proud that in the summer of next year we will have a stadium to rank with any around.

“The GAA public deserves top class, modern facilities to house its games and to meet today’s expectations.”
