NRG Stadium fitted with hi-tech Wi-Fi system ahead of Super Bowl

Wireless solutions provider 5 Bars has deployed a high-density Wi-Fi network at NRG Stadium, the setting for this Sunday’s Super Bowl, to aid the venue’s internet capabilities ahead of staging the NFL American football showpiece.

A secure and reliable network has been fitted at the venue, which is home to the Houston Texans NFL franchise, to support the heavy data-usage demands of the teams, fans and the stadium itself. With the help of the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, 5 Bars has planned, designed and built the network for the 72,000-capacity facility.

The network now covers 1.9 million square feet of the stadium through the deployment of 1,250 Extreme Networks access points and switches.

“We are proud to be part of such a high-profile venue,” 5 Bars president Monnie McGaffigan said. “NRG Stadium is one of the largest and busiest stadiums in the country. To be able to deliver a world-class Wi-Fi system in such a short time frame speaks volumes about the team we were working with and the importance of the Super Bowl. We are excited to see the system in full action.”
