English Football League club Sheffield United plans to develop the land that surrounds its home ground, Bramall Lane.
United is seeking to develop the Cherry Street and Shoreham Street corner, and has submitted a planning application that will see the development of a four-storey, largely residential building called Boundary Corner. It will feature a new ground floor club retail outlet.
“The corner site we are developing could fulfil a dream for some of our supporters – a chance to live at the home of football. It will also enable the club to expand the superstore,” United director Simon McCabe said.
An updated Blades superstore will be double the size of the current south stand location and will feature a fan zone, while the existing club shop may be utilised as a conference or event facility.
The proposals are part of a long-term redevelopment that has included the installation of a new pitch, which has allowed the stadium to host a greater number of events.
Director Scott McCabe said: “Significantly, it is part of a route we are taking whereby we have identified several opportunities to further develop and improve the ground and the immediate surrounding area.
“We are seeking to build a broader commercial, leisure and entertainment offer, developing additional revenue streams to support the aim of supporting United’s return to the upper levels of the English game.”
