Saints, Pelicans sign naming-rights partner for training facility

Louisiana-based academic healthcare system Ochsner Health System has agreed a deal to become the new naming rights partner of the training facility of both NFL American football franchise the New Orleans Saints and NBA basketball team the New Orleans Pelicans.

Although terms of the agreement were not disclosed, it has been confirmed that the partnership will be a long-term deal and the facility will now be known as the Ochsner Sports Performance Centre.

Ochsner Health System has been working with both the Saints and Pelicans for almost 10 years and the naming rights deal will expand this relationship.

Saints and Pelicans Owners Tom and Gayle Benson have given heavy support to the Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center, which cares for cancer sufferers in the local area.

Warner Thomas, president and chief executive of Ochsner Health System, said: “The naming signals a commitment from Ochsner, the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans to use the Ochsner Sports Performance Center to improve health and wellness across the state.

“While the Ochsner Sports Performance Center has been a hub for both basketball-and-football-themed community outreach programs and events annually including initiatives sponsored by both the Saints and Pelicans youth programs and community relations outreach programs, together the partners plan to do more.

“Dedicated events meant to provide education along with health screenings for the community will be geared toward not only catching diseases like cancer early, but also helping people more effectively manage chronic disease.”

The Ochsner Sports Performance Centre is the only venue of its kind in the US that serves as both an NFL and NBA training base. Amenities on-site include a 75,000sq ft indoor practice facility, outdoor football practice fields, a 20,000sq ft workout gym and a modern, full-service cafeteria.

Dennis Lauscha, president of the Saints and Pelicans, added: “Ochsner’s innovative, forward-thinking, patient-first medical teams and facilities are unsurpassed, and their focus on not only treating, but also preventing, injuries will translate into a very beneficial partnership.

“In addition, Ochsner’s community commitment is so closely aligned to that of both the Saints and the Pelicans that this makes Ochsner the perfect partner to further our collective goals and programs.”
