Italian Serie A football club Cagliari has narrowed down the search for the designer of its new stadium to three applications.
Cagliari said it had received 25 proposals from national and international firms bidding to design the new stadium, which will be built on the site of its current ground, Stadio Sant’Elia.
The joint proposal of J+S and One Works will be considered, along with separate proposals from Sportium and Tractebel.
• J+S & One Works (both design and consulting companie) have collaborated with Portuguese architects Deerns and Italy-based Studio Majowiecki.
• Sportium includes Progetto CMR, Ideas, B&L and MANICA, the US stadium and arena architect specialist.
• Tractebel, an engineering company of the Engie group, has partnered with the Polish architectural firm JSK Architekci.
The three candidates will be required to submit their proposed stadium concepts by February 12. Cagliari said its supporters would be involved in the final selection process.
Cagliari is currently playing its home matches at a 16,000-seat temporary venue, the Sardegna Arena. Construction work on the new stadium is due for completion in two years’ time.
