Oculus teams up with NextVR for venues venture

NextVR, a technology platform for broadcasting live events in virtual reality, has partnered with technology company Oculus to support its new venture for stadia and arenas.

NextVR will bring live VR events to Oculus Venues, a new Oculus app that allows people watch live concerts, sports, comedy shows and other events with friends and thousands of other people in VR.

It combines live social engagement with NextVR’s virtual reality content in an effort to provide an immersive event experience. Venues will be available for the new Oculus Go headset and for Gear VR on May 30.

“Oculus Venues is a bold move to provide profound social VR engagement and we are honoured to deliver such an important part of this new product release from Oculus,” David Cole, NextVR co-founder and chief executive, said.

“NextVR has built a passionate fan base around leading VR content experiences. Venues will satisfy our fans who want to enjoy this type of content on a massively social scale.”

NextVR is presenting a lineup of new experiences, along with returning content partners, for Oculus Venues.

For the first time, NextVR will provide standup comedy live from Gotham Comedy Club in New York. NextVR will also extend its ongoing music offering with School Night live from Hollywood that features up-and-coming bands.

Viewers will also be able to enjoy football games from pre-season tournament the International Champions Cup.
