Live Nation snaps up Sportpaleis operating rights

Entertainment events promoter and venue operator Live Nation has struck a deal to acquire the operating company of Antwerp’s Sportpaleis arena in Belgium.

Sportpaleis is one of Belgium’s most prominent entertainment venues, with a capacity of just over 23,000.

Aside from the showpiece venue, the Sportpaleis Group also operates the smaller Lotto Arena and Stadsschouwburg arenas in the Belgian city, as well as the Forest National and Capitole facilities in Brussels and Ghent, plus the Ethias Arena, Ethias Theatre and the Grenslandhallen in Hasselt.

The value of the deal – which does not include the group’s promoter, PSE Belgium, or the Tele Ticket Service provider – was not disclosed.

According to Belgian news service HLN, the deal was finalised late last week by the Live Nation Belgium division of the company.

The agreement marks a further step by Live Nation into Belgium, where the promoter already operates the Rock Werchter, Dour, Graspop and Pukkelpop festivals. However, the deal represents Live Nation’s first move into venue operating in the country.

HLN added that Sportpaleis Group’s current leaders, Jan van Esbroeck and Jan Vereecke, will stay on at the company following the transaction.
