Kings fans to be offered AR experiences at Golden 1 Center

NBA basketball franchise the Sacramento Kings has added yet another innovative element to the fan experience at Golden 1 Center through a partnership with Imagination Park Technologies.

The deal involves delivering augmented reality (AR) engagement opportunities during home games through the Sacramento Kings + Golden 1 Center app.

Starting in early 2020, fans will be offered the likes of AR scavenger hunts, in-arena photo opportunities with digital players, sweepstakes, giveaways and interactive sponsorship campaigns.

“We are honoured to be working with the Sacramento Kings, a team that truly understands the importance of using augmented reality and innovative technology to improve the sports world,” said Imagination Park Technologies CEO, Alen Paul Silverrstieen.

“With the ImagineAR Self Service Platform, the Kings will have the most advanced AR features and functions available to lead to more fan engagement and activations.”

The latest venture comes after the Kings last month revealed plans for the NBA’s first blockchain-powered reward program. Developed in association with blockchain-based live event ticketing and fan engagement company Blockparty, the Kings added the new reward program as an enhancement to the NBA’s first predictive gaming application, Call the Shot, in time for the 2019-20 season.

The Kings have sought to pave the way for technology innovation in sport. In 2014, they became the first NBA team to accept Bitcoin as payment in the arena. Last year, the Kings became the first professional sports team in the world to mine cryptocurrency and announced a charitable program, MiningForGood, that donates these funds to workforce development and training efforts in the community.

The Kings are also industry leaders in predictive gaming. Earlier this year, the Kings debuted the NBA’s first dedicated space for a free-to-play, in-arena predictive gaming experience. In another tech first, Golden 1 Center in September opened a checkout-free convenience store through a partnership with Zippin.
