The Municipality of Lorient has appointed Paris-based architecture firm Chaix et Morel as the project manager for the redevelopment of Stade du Moustoir, home of French Ligue 1 football club FC Lorient.

The project is set to take place across three phases and will be completed in 2028. According to the Le Télégramme newspaper, the total cost of the project will reach €41.27m (£35.5m/$45m).

Chaix et Morel said the shape and façade of the stadium will be “reinterpreted” with a ribbon of vertical wood and recycled aluminium slats. The stadium site will also include a new skate park.

It is hoped the project will help transform Stade du Moustoir into a year-round venue.

Stade du Moustoir opened in 1959 and has a current capacity of 18,110. The stadium last underwent renovation in 2010.

Earlier this year, Bill Foley, owner of Premier League club AFC Bournemouth and the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, acquired a significant minority ownership interest in FC Lorient.

Lorient finished the 2022-23 season in 10th place.
