Spanish LaLiga football club RCD Mallorca has agreed deals with Telefónica and LG Electronics to support the redevelopment of the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix.

The three-way agreement is designed to advance the digital and multimedia capabilities of the revamped stadium.

The club was given the go-ahead to revamp the stadium back in April 2022 after initially presenting plans earlier in the year. The venue opened in 1999 and RCD Mallorca has previously stated the need for the stadium to evolve and adapt to “changing times”.

The Telefónica deal will run for three seasons and names the company as RCD Mallorca’s preferred technological partner. The deal will enable the club to enhance audiovisual experiences at the stadium.

LG has signed a two-year deal to become an official technology provider of the club. The company will supply two large video scoreboards and more than 200 TV screens for the renovated stadium.

The scoreboards will be installed in the north and south ends of the stadium. One will measure 22m wide by 7m high, with the other to measure 13m wide by 7m high.

Alfonso Díaz, business chief executive at RCD Mallorca, said: “For RCD Mallorca, this agreement means associating with two large technology companies, each one a leader in its sector and with an important international reach.

“This step forward means accelerating the club’s growth process at a technological and digital level and generating confidence by attracting large international firms to join our project and turn RCD Mallorca into a benchmark club.”

Jaime de Jaraíz Lozano, president and chief executive of LG España, added: “For LG it has been extraordinary to work with RCD Mallorca to put the best technology at the service of all Vermilion fans.

“We understand that innovation only makes sense if it improves people’s lives, and this project will elevate the experience of all those who attend the Estadi so that they can enjoy football in a more immersive and complete way next season.”

The initial phase of the project cost €5.4m (£4.6m/$5.9m) and centred on a new structure in the lower part of the south stand. The wider project, which is slated to be finished by 2024, is expected to cost around €20m.

The stadium was rebranded as the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix in December after the club agreed a new sponsorship deal with the Consell de Mallorca. The ground had previously been known as the Visit Mallorca Estadi through an agreement with the island’s tourism board.
