Euroleague Basketball has announced that Paris and Berlin will host the inaugural season of Hoop District, a new 3×3 competition featuring content creators.

The tournament will form part of Euroleague Basketball’s Off Court series of urban culture events. Hoop District will feature content creators from around Europe and will offer a €10,000 (£8,5000/€11,000) cash prize, with a €5,000 bonus prize for the team achieving the biggest social media impact.

The event will begin on March 30 at the new Adidas Arena, which recently opened in Paris ahead of this summer’s Olympic Games. Six participating teams will be divided into two groups, with the best two teams from the Paris Hoop District to qualify for the Berlin edition.

Hoop District Berlin will form part of the EuroLeague Final Four celebrations in the German capital and will be played on May 23 with the two winners of the Paris edition, a local Berlin team, and an all-star team. The EuroLeague Final Four will take place at Mercedes-Benz Arena from May 24-26.

Euroleague Basketball hopes the new event will attract a young and diverse audience. Influencers will include Marco D’Uva (Italy), Dimitris Kyrsanidis (Greece), Reda Ouahbi (France), SBB (UK), Tresco (Spain) and Valentina Vignali (Italy).

Hoop District will also see the introduction of new game rules, including ‘Buckle-Up’ substitution requirements and four innovative ‘Power-Up’ play options, two of which can be used by each team in every game.

Euroleague Basketball said that social media platforms will serve as a “virtual court” during the event by providing a constant flow of content.
