OVO Hydro is set to host Scotland’s first-ever WWE premium live event when the wrestling championship comes to Glasgow in June.

WWE, part of TKO Group, has announced that Glasgow will host Friday Night SmackDown on Friday, June 14, followed by Clash At The Castle: Scotland, the first-ever WWE premium live event to be held in Scotland, on Saturday, June 15 at the OVO Hydro.

The announcement follows the record-setting Clash At The Castle which took place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, in September 2022. This was the most-viewed and highest-rated international premium live event in company history.

“We are excited to bring both Friday Night SmackDown and Clash At The Castle: Scotland to our amazing fans in Scotland at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow this June,” said WWE president Nick Khan. “The world will see that this is one of the UK’s best venues and Scottish crowds are some of the loudest, craziest and most passionate on the planet.”

Disappointment for Wales

Officials in Wales had hoped they could lure WWE back to Cardiff following the success of 2022’s Clash At The Castle. It was estimated that the event generated £21.8m for the local economy with 75.3% of spectators attending from outside Wales.

The show – where the stadium was transformed into a huge castle – was the first premium WWE show to be held in the UK since Wembley Stadium staged SummerSlam in 1992.

Scotland is home to several WWE Superstars including Drew McIntyre and Alba Fyre.

The news comes as it was announced that WWE owner Endeavor is to be acquired by private equity firm Silver Lake in a deal worth $13bn.
