Global Sports Ventures sets out cricket stadia strategy in US

Sports development company Global Sports Ventures (GSV) is to build a number of cricket stadiums in locations across the US.

The venues are set to form part of a $2.4bn (€2.2bn/£1.9bn) infrastructure and business development that has been designed by GSV to drive economic growth in eight states.

GSV said the venues will serve as “multi-purpose entertainment stadiums and lifestyle centres”, with each to cost approximately $300m. Sites for the stadia, each of which will have a capacity of more than 26,000, have been identified in New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Illinois and California.

The company added that the stadia will generate a combined $8bn in direct and indirect salaries over the next 20 years, with 17,800 new jobs to be created as a result.

This announcement comes shortly after GSV signed a $70m licensing agreement for Twenty20 rights with the United States of America Cricket Association.

GSV chairman Jignesh Pandya said: “We are delighted to receive so much positive feedback and commitment from officials on a state level, and we’re dedicated to working with local communities and businesses to provide an estimated economic output upwards of $100m per city.”
