Warwickshire County Cricket Club has lifted the lid on plans for Edgbaston Stadium to feature one of the most unique spaces in the world to enjoy a cricket match.

Edgbaston is preparing to unveil a Skyline roof-top terrace hospitality offering that will transform its match day experience for guests. Skyline – situated at the height of the South Stand – will offer panoramic views of the pitch and Birmingham landscape, whilst delivering what Warwickshire states will be an unrivalled hospitality package.

The major refurbishment includes high-end hospitality and banqueting, a private inclusive bar, reception areas, live music and DJ, plus superior seating in a partially-covered, contemporary roof-top setting.

Edgbaston is working on Skyline in partnership with Stadia by GL Events, Arcadis and Woo Architects, which devised concepts for areas at Wembley Stadium, Twickenham Stadium and the London Stadium.

Skyline is set for completion in the coming weeks with packages now on sale for a host of major match days in 2023, including Edgbaston’s hosting of the men’s Ashes Test against Australia, men’s IT20 against New Zealand and Vitality Blast Finals Day.

Warwickshire’s chief operating officer, Craig Flindall, said: “The Skyline will be a stunning viewing deck, offering an unrivalled spectator experience that will be the envy of cricket enthusiasts around the world.

“It’s a contemporary, vibrant space that transforms the existing seating area to a stunning high-spec fit-out, offering a first-rate experience for spectators.

“The development is part of our wider Masterplan to further invest in our facilities at Edgbaston and create more multi-purpose, versatile spaces. The Skyline does that by giving us the opportunity to not only introduce a new hospitality facility but expand our conference and events capabilities to host more summer parties and outdoor events.

“The environment will be relaxed and informal, where there are not only exceptional pitch views but where the food is plentiful, and the atmosphere fun and lively.”

Nick Darke, Edgbaston hospitality sales manager for the stadium’s official hospitality provider, Keith Prowse, added: “The Skyline creates a modern hospitality experience and adds a new dimension to the already-exceptional packages available at Edgbaston. It’s the ideal space for corporate entertaining or the perfect day out for family and friends.

“The Skyline offers a more free-flowing environment with informal seating areas and the flexibility to experience cricket hospitality in a way guests may not have done so previously and I’m excited to welcome them.”

Warwickshire and Birmingham City Council in October launched a bid to the government’s Levelling Up Fund for a new masterplan to transform Edgbaston Stadium into a mixed-use destination.

The masterplan includes support for the surrounding community and ties in with legacy plans for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, at which Edgbaston hosted cricket matches. The renewed Edgbaston would combine elite sport, conferencing and events with community assets to improve health and social care, education and employment, and social cohesion in the area.

The bid was one of five the Council put forward for the second round of Levelling Up funding, but it was announced in January that it had failed to secure funds for each of the projects.
