Perth’s Optus Stadium has announced plans to open an in-venue pool for the upcoming day-night cricket Test between Australia and New Zealand.
Fans who purchase match tickets before 8pm local time tomorrow (Friday) will be entered into a draw to upgrade their seat for a two-hour stay in The Boundary Beach Club.
The club will be 14 metres long and stretch across three bays on Level 1 of Optus Stadium. It will be able to hold up to 100 people per session.
The space will be cleaned after each two-hour session, with at least two lifeguards to be monitoring the pool at all times.
Although the initiative marks a first for Optus Stadium, The Gabba in Brisbane has offered a similar experience whereby fans are picked at random to try out the stadium’s pool area.
The Australia-New Zealand series will take place from December 12-16 and will mark the first day-night Test at Optus Stadium.
Optus Stadium opened in January 2018 and has a capacity of 60,000. As well as cricket, it hosts Aussie rules, football, rugby league and rugby union matches and has also staged concerts featuring the likes of Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift and Eminem.
