Arena MRV, the new home of Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A football club Atlético Mineiro, staged its inaugural event on Saturday as around 9,000 fans were given their first look at the 46,000-seat stadium.

The Nascimento do Campo (Birth of the Field) event was held under the BH Festival banner and featured concerts and tributes to celebrate the opening of the stadium (pictured in February). The pitch markings were also laid out, while goalposts were installed and the first shots at goal were taken.

Club legends were honoured during the event, details of which were announced last month. Atlético is planning a series of events under the BH Festival banner, including a friendly match against an overseas club.

Saturday’s event featured performances from the Sambô group and singer Aline Calixto. Fans who bought seats at Arena MRV during the first batch of ticket sales were guaranteed a ticket for the event.

Fans were also able to sample the free, high-density Wi-Fi that will be available at Arena MRV on match days. Supporters could also interact with sponsors of the BH Festival and Arena MRV, with special activations organised by the club.

The project broke ground in April 2020 and the stadium was originally expected to be completed last year, but delays in construction pushed this back to mid-2023. It is expected that competitive football will not be held at Arena MRV until August.

Arena MRV will feature a standing section behind one of the goals following requests from fans. The section will house around 2,800 fans.
