The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced that Malaga will once again host the final eight of the men’s Davis Cup tournament in 2024.

Malaga hosted the knockout stages of the Davis Cup Finals in 2022 and 2023, with this year’s event concluding yesterday (Sunday) as Italy defeated Australia to win the tournament.

Malaga’s Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena, an indoor arena with a capacity of 11,300, was the host venue and the ITF has opted to head back to the city in 2024.

The city was awarded hosting rights to the knockout stages of the 2022 and 2023 Finals back in April 2022. Malaga had initially been announced as one of four host venues for the 2022 group stages, but it was elevated to host the Finals after putting forward a “compelling bid” to the ITF.

This year, Davis Cup Finals group stage events were held in Manchester, Bologna, Valencia and Split, with Malaga hosting the knockout stage from November 21-26. The group stage of the 2024 tournament is scheduled for the week commencing September 9, with the venues yet to be confirmed.

Before last year, the last time Malaga hosted a Davis Cup tie was in September 2003, when Spain defeated Argentina 3-2. Prior to Malaga being awarded the rights for the knockout stages of the Finals, it had been reported that the ITF had been considering taking the event to Abu Dhabi as part of a long-term deal, but this did not come to fruition.

The Finals of the women’s Billie Jean King Cup tournament also take place in the Spanish region of Andalucía. Seville was awarded hosting rights for the 2023 and 2024 Finals back in May, with the deal also including an option to extend to 2025.
