Arena Fonte Nova, the home stadium of Campeonato Brasileiro Série A football club Bahia, has taken on a new name as part of a sponsorship deal with sports betting company Casa de Apostas.

Under the four-year agreement, the stadium will be known as Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova. The stadium expects to generate R$13m (£2.1m/€2.4m/$2.6m) a year in commercial revenue over the course of the four-year deal.

The venue had been sponsored by beer brand Itaipava since it opened in 2013. Itaipava will continue to sell its products at the stadium but will no longer hold naming rights.

Arena Fonte Nova has a capacity of 47,000 and was used as a host venue during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Casa de Apostas has an existing relationship with Bahia having served as the club’s main shirt sponsor from 2020 to 2022. It was replaced by rival betting company Esportes da Sorte at the start of last year.

Casa de Apostas also sponsors other Brazilian clubs, including Botafogo and Cruzeiro.

Anderson Nunes, head of business at Casa de Apostas, said: “It is a great satisfaction for us to sign this pioneering and historic agreement, to give a name to one of the main venues in Brazil, which hosts events of global reach. This is an action of great magnitude and one that we hope will yield good results for us, for Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova, and mainly for the public.”
