The home venue of the AFL’s Greater Western Sydney Giants has been rebranded as Engie Stadium as part of a naming-rights deal with the energy company.
A three-year deal has been reached between Engie, the Giants and the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS), which operates the 23,500-capacity stadium.
The venue was previously known as Giants Stadium after the team struck a novel deal to take on naming rights back in 2019. The deal was made possible after a group of “cashed-up supporters” bought the rights on behalf of the club.
The stadium forms part of Sydney Olympic Park and has previously been sponsored by car manufacturer Škoda and catering company Spotless.
Engie Stadium also hosts Big Bash League cricket matches played by the Sydney Thunder, as well as the Sydney Royal Easter Show and music concerts. Engie, a French company, has operated in Australia since 1996 and hopes to achieve net zero in the country by 2045.
Giants chief executive David Matthews said: “The Giants’ brand continues to grow, and we are thrilled to partner with Engie to host thousands of Giants fans as the club continues to stamp its footprint on the sport in NSW, the ACT and beyond.
“The venue itself continues to be a world-class stadium that has been consistently voted as the number one AFL venue in the country for fan experience. From a Giants game day perspective, we pride ourselves on delivering the highest quality experience for our Orange Army and we can’t wait to continue to deliver that first-class experience at Engie Stadium.”
The deal has been signed ahead of the Giants’ sold-out opening match of the new season against Collingwood on Saturday.
